The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs

Mike Daisey is a performance artist who does a monologue about Apple and the Chinese factory workers in Foxconn who manufacture everything we use. Last week he adapted his performance for radio and performed it on This American Life.

If you use any electronic devices at all (and I know you are using one right now), you need to hear this.

Edit: MacRumors has a letter that Apple CEO Tim Cook sent out explaining this year’s Supplier Responsibility Progress Report and clarifying Apple’s stance on the conditions in these factories. Apple also just became the first tech company to join the Fair Labor Association. It’s a good move, but there’s a long way to go. Let’s hope Apple leads the way in manufacturing as well as design.

Edit 2: I’ve retracted the audio link because Mike Daisey is an assclown. This American Life has done the same.
